Eaton Community School District History
Mergers and consolidation over the years have resulted in the formation of the Eaton Community Schools. Until the early 1960's there were 12 County school districts - Dixon-Israel (Dragons), Camden (Cubs), West Elkton (Yellow Jackets), Gratis (Trojans), Verona (Vikings), West Alexandria (Bulldogs), Lanier (Tigers), Lewisburg (Tigers), Jefferson (Hornets), Monroe Central (Wildcats), Jackson (Redskins), College Corner (Trojans) and one City School - Eaton City Schools (Golden Eagles).
Today those 12 county schools have all consolidated to form the school districts of Eaton Community Schools (Dixon-Israel & Eaton City Schools), Preble Shawnee
Currently there are 613 Public School districts in Ohio compared to 2,674 in 1915.

1950's and early '60's Mostly Rural Consolidations HS sizes requirement (400); increasing need for non-instructional services; Urbanization.
